Protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill rock Jorhat

JORHAT: Activists of the Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad staged sit-in in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office holding placards and shouting slogans in Jorhat city on Wednesday. The protesters slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for trying to bring in the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 and also lambasted Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa for remaining silent on the issue. The protesters blocked the AT Road in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office due to which traffic came to standstill.

Meanwhile, students of six colleges in Jorhat district affiliated to Dibrugarh University stormed the streets of Jorhat city in protest against CAB. The protest was led by elected representatives of the AASU and student union bodies of various colleges. Also, more than 1,000 activists of five unions and associations staging dharna against the controversial Bill in Jorhat.
