Rabies Day Observed At Auditorium of Sibsagar Girls’ College

SIVASAGAR: World Rabies Day was observed with the theme ‘Rabies: Vaccinate to eliminate’ with Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Dr MS Lakshmi Priya as chief guest. The programme, held at the auditorium of Sibsagar Girls’ College on Saturday, was organized by the District Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department under Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP-NHM). Deputy Commissioner Dr Lakshmi Priya in her address stressed the need to vaccinate against rabies. She also shared her own experiences as a medical practitioner about the deadliness of the disease. In the programme which was chaired by Buddhin Mishra, Principal of Sibsagar Girls’ College, Dr Udayaditya Rajkonwar, medical officer, gave an elaborate presentation on rabies and its pre and post biting prophylaxis. Dr Khanindra Dev Goswami, former district veterinary officer, and Dr Akshyavat Kesari shared their experiences while dealing with the patients battling with the disease. Dr Hemanta Barua, district surveillance officer, also spoke on the occasion.
