Bongaigaon: More than 1,000 Railway employees embarked on a journey on Monday to Kota district of Rajasthan by a special train to participate in the 94th annual convention of All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) which will start from November 1 with a three-day programme at Kota. The members of North East Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union will participate there under the leadership of Rakhal Das Gupta, president of AIRF and general secretary of NFRMU. Several leaders of NFRMU like Pijush Chakraborty, Dilip Chakraborty, Ashish Biswas and Chusen Hazarika will accompany Das Gupta.
Pijush Chakraborty said that discussion and resolution on several important issues would be taken in this convention. “Burning issues like stopping privatization of Railways, scraping of the National Pension Scheme and filling up of vacant posts in Railway department are few such issues. Discussion and plans to protest against the government’s anti-labour policies will also be taken there,” he said.
