DOOMDOOMA: The foundation day of Ramdhenu Mahila Chora, Doomdooma, was observed on Saturday at Doomdooma Satodal Sakha Xahitya Xabha (DSSXX) Bhaban with president Dibyalata Deka in the chair.
In the beginning, tributes were paid in memory of founder President Bina Deka and four of its departed members - Bharati Deka, Renu Baruah, Kamini Deka and Jamini Barman - by lighting lamps in front of their respective portraits.
In keeping with the day, a symposium was held on the topic “Spiritualism and women.” Bina Devi Bordoloi, former Head of Economics Department, Doomdooma College, dwelt on the subject as resource person. In her speech, she gave a broad outline about spiritualism as practised by the vedic women scholars like Gargi, Moitreyee, and Lopamudra to the present-day women doing their religious rituals.
The meeting was anchored by secretary Rumi Pathak and attended by Bimala Barua, past president of DSSXX, advisers Shima Chaudhury, Nirola Chaudhury, and other distinguished persons.
Besides a chorus presented by the members, a poem recitation by Nivarani Chaudhury, Rabindra Sangeet presented by Joya Bhattacharya, and two devotional songs performed by women members of Ramkrishna Sevashram made the programme very lively. Besides them, member Nirola Chaudhury also beautifully rendered a song. The meeting came to an end singing of Asom Sangeet “O Mur Apunar Desh.”
