SIVASAGAR: The Amguri Ghat embankment road along the Dikhow river, located in the historic Joysagar region under Rongpur Gaon Panchayat of Sivasagar district, is in a severely dilapidated condition. The busy road, vital for local commuters, has now become dangerously unfit for both pedestrians and vehicles. Senior journalist and State Chief Coordinator of the Nikhil Axom Samajbadi Janaganatantrik Gana Swaraj Party and Indian Patriotic Federation (Socialist) [IPFS], Pranjal Rajguru, described the situation as life-threatening in a press release issued on Monday.

Rajguru highlighted that this crucial route, stretching from the historically significant Joysagar Chipahi Gaon Road, Rang Ghar Chariali, and Konjan Chariali through Duboroni Ali to Meteka and Mechagarh-Bogidol, is daily used by hundreds of local residents to travel to Sivasagar town.

Back in 2017, following the initiative of then Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) had sanctioned Rs 45 lakh for the construction of this road from Amguri Ghat to Konjan Chariali. However, the contractor allegedly carried out substandard work, misusing the development funds meant for public infrastructure.

In 2024, local youths from Amguri village, with support from public donations, attempted to patch up the most damaged sections with concrete. While this community-driven repair temporarily eased the problem, the structure soon deteriorated again due to poor durability and lack of formal support.

As a result, for the past one and a half years, the road has completely broken down, causing immense hardship and transportation issues for people in the wider region, alleged Rajguru.

In light of the severe condition of this vital road link, Pranjal Rajguru of Nikhil Axom Samajbadi Janaganatantrik Gana Swaraj Party and Indian Patriotic Federation (Socialist), strongly demanded immediate full reconstruction of the road to ensure safe and smooth passage for the public.
