TINSUKIA/DIGBOI: In a significant achievement by the Assam Police, the remains of coal miner Pranjal Moran were retrieved by a join team of Margherita police, SDRF and NDRF under the supervision of Tinsukia-based IGP(NE) Jitmol Doley from a rat hole mine of Tirap Colliery on Friday morning who went missing on January 6, 2023.
The body of Pranjal Moran was traced inside 100 metre long tunnel of a closed rat hole mine of Coal India limited wrapped in a gunny bag with salt. The police got the lead following arrest of 3 persons namely Gopinath Gogoi, Sanjay Mura and Krishna Tasa on Thursday who confessed to having buried the body under the rubbles inside the tunnel. The prima facie pointed suspicion that Pranjal might have been murdered by some of his close associates on certain issues.
The mortal remains were identified by his wife Urvashi Moran after she was asked by IGP Doley to visit the site for identification. So far 18 persons were taken into custody who were allegedly involved in illegal mining.
Meanwhile, the Assam DGP GP Singh in his official Twitter account said, “Assam police has kept its promise to Urvashi Moran. The mortal remains of Late Pranjal Moran have been recovered by the team led by IGP Jitmal Doley. We remain committed to further lawful action.”
