Rich tributes were paid to Khiroda Kumari Baruah, noted writer and wife of renowned Assamese actor Phunu Baruah who died on December 5

SIVASAGAR: Rich tributes were paid to Khiroda Kumari Baruah, noted writer and wife of renowned Assamese actor Phunu Baruah who died on December 5, at a function organized by Sivasagar Natya Samaj at the Sivasagar Junior College premises recently. In this connection, a meeting was organized which was anchored by noted social activist of Sivasagar Saurav Chaliha.

Speaking at the meeting, president of Sivasagar Natya Samaj and founder principal of Sibsagar Commerce College Dipali Chaliha said being married at the age of fourteen to Parashuram Baruah alias Phunu Baruah, Khiroda Kumari Baruah shouldered the responsibility to take forward the legacy of that renowned family. She had a huge capacity for conversing with people and making emotional connect with them. Besides being an ideal mother, she also earned fame in the field of culture and literature. She was the writer of seven books. Chaliha called upon the people to follow the ideals of late Baruah.

Paying tributes to the departed soul of Khiroda Kumari Baruah, Lakhikanta Mahanta, Xatradhikar of Ujanial Xatra said that she had ignited the soul of the people by establishing Jonaki Mohila Chora.

Noted social activist Saurav Chaliha recalled her contributions towards the Assamese society. Citing her acts of patriotism, Chaliha said that she would always be remembered for her sacrifice she made to help Indian army during Indo-China war.

Khiroda Kumari Baruah's younger daughter Subhalakshmi Baruah, wife of Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, conveyed thanks to the people over telephone for arranging the meet in memory of her late mother. The meeting was addressed among others by noted physician Dr Pradip Bordoloi, social activist Bipul Shila Ojha and others.
