Royal Bengal Tiger captured in Sonitpur district

TEZPUR: Thirty-one days into its intensive search operation, the Sonitpur West Forest Division along with the staff of Orang National Park tranquilized and captured a Royal Bengal Tiger at Barbhagia village, Borsola area under Dhekiajuli Range in Sonitpur district on Tuesday, which strayed away from the Orang National Park in search of food.

The capture of the tiger finally brought relief to the greater Borsola area. The forest personnel used every possible ploy to capture the tiger. They cleared forests and wrapped an area with nets and also clamped prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC.

Forest officials said that the tiger had also attacked and injured one person, resident of Borsola area, and immediately the injured person shifted to the TMCH for medical treatment. They gave him Rs 20,000 for his medical expenses as part of ex-gratia. After medical check-up the Royal Bengal Tiger was shifted to the Orang National Park for its better rehabilitation as well as safety of the animal, forest officials said. The whole operation was carried out under the supervision of DFO, Sonitpur West Forest Division, Nripendra Nath Kalita and DFO, Orang National Park, Pradipta Baruah.
