HAFLONG: Running of trains between Silchar to New Haflong and Guwahati to Langting from Thursday has brought a sigh of relief among the people, not only for Dima Hasao, but also for the people of neighbouring States like Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur.
The people were suffering a lot due to disruption of rail communication between Lumding and Badarpur since May 14. The rail communication between Lumding and Badarpur was disrupted due to heavy landslides at more than 60 locations following incessant rain during the month of May and June.
The approach road to New Haflong station was also badly damaged at several locations resulting in inconvenience to the commuters. Even auto drivers are facing problems while dropping the train passengers to the station. They appealed to the government to restore and repair the damages in the approach road so that passengers do not suffer.
