Sensation prevails in Garuduba-Thelamara area concerning Ram Mandir Bhumi Pujan

TEZPUR: The situation is tense in the Thelamara-Garuduba area under Thelamara Police Station in Sonitpur district concerning the Ram Mandir Bhumi Pujan. To mark the bhumi pujan the Bajrang Dal and the Viswa Hindu Parishad, Dhekiajuli chapters took out a procession. When the procession was approaching towards the Gouri Mandir on a hillock in the area popularly known as Suti-Pahar for performing puja on the occasion and to conclude their daylong programme, a section of miscreants from the greater Garuduba area allegedly attacked the processionists and left around 20 of them injured. The attackers even kept about 30 persons captive for a long time and set ablaze three motorbikes and a Tata Magic.

On receiving the information, police and the security forces rushed to the spot and rescued the captive members. The police also resorted to firing to disperse the mob and to bringing the situation under control. The Sonitpur DC, along with the senior police officials from the District Headquarters on receiving the information, also rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. The district administration urged all to maintain peace, tranquillity and communal harmony. The DC said that investigation is underway.
