SIVASAGAR: The 23rd death anniversary of Seuj Konwar Parag Chaliha was observed in the premises of Chau-Lung Syukafa Indoor Stadium in Sivasagar on Tuesday. The event, organized in a joint effort of Parag Chaliha Smriti Rakshya Samiti, Sivasagar Natya Samaj and Chau-Lung Syukafa Indoor Stadium Management Committee, was participated by a host of leading citizens, educationists, artists, journalists and others.
Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Megha Nidhi Dahal was the chief guest during the occasion. Dahal, in his speech, said, "Such personalities like Parag Chaliha about whom I get to know from the speeches of the noted speakers here today, are not seen in the society these days. I just want to say that the footprints he has left should be imitated by the new generation and I am also eager to know more about him so that I can also be inspired."
Prominent scholars, citizens, sports organizer and others also highlighted the life and achievements of Seuj Konwar Parag Chaliha and stressed the need for preserving his legacy. Nitya Narayan Borgohain, Makhan Bora, Lakshmikanta Mahanta and Nekibuddin Ahmed also spoke about their experiences with the eminent scholar and the contributions of Seuj Konwar in the field of art, culture, literature and sports.
Addressing the gathering, noted columnist and Principal of Gargaon College, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta termed Seuj Konwar as a symbol of creativity and man of vision whose focus was on working for preserving culture, tradition and leading the society towards development in every spheres. Speaking about his contributions in the field of politics, Dr Mahanta said that the Ministry of DoNER is the contribution of Parag Chaliha. "The Northeast got this ministry as a consequence of his powerful statement in the Parliament when he was an MP." He also stated that people need to remember the contributions of such an eminent and multifaceted personality and follow his legacy.
Earlier, the event began with offering of floral tributes before Seuj Konwar Parag Chaliha's bust by his wife and noted educationist Dipali Chaliha and other eminent citizens. Saurav Chaliha, son of Parag Chaliha hosted the event.
