Sivasagar DC Aayush Garg urges coordinated efforts for early reactivation of PWSS

SIVASAGAR: A review meeting was held recently under the chairmanship of Sivasagar District Commissioner Aayush Garg, to assess the progress of key schemes implemented under the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).

Held at the Sukafa Conference Hall of the DC’s office, the meeting primarily focused on the operational status of various Piped Water Supply Schemes (PWSS) that are currently non-functional due to multiple reasons, including damage during road expansion work, pipe connection breakdowns, disruption in power supply, and other technical faults. The District Commissioner stressed the need for adopting a methodical and coordinated approach among departments to ensure the quick restoration and reactivation of these schemes.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of mobilizing Jal Mitras to collect the nominal monthly user contributions from beneficiaries under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Consensus was reached to strengthen this mechanism to ensure sustainability.

In view of the Government of Assam’s campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission, Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2025, the District Commissioner emphasized the role of Jal Mitras in encouraging public participation for the village-level cleanliness survey. Sectoral officers were instructed to ensure that Jal Mitras work proactively in motivating rural residents to participate through the designated mobile application.

The meeting was also attended by Satish Chandra Thakuria, CEO, Sivasagar Zilla Parishad, Geetalee Dowarah, Additional District Commissioner, Ajay Kumar Lahon, Executive Engineer, PHED, Pallab Pran Baruah, Chief Executive Officer, APDCL, and Hitesh Kumar Kalita, AGM, APDCL, along with other departmental officials.
