Smuggled Liquor Seized by Charaideo Police, One Arrested at Moranhat

SIVASAGAR: A large consignment of liquor being smuggled from Arunachal Pradesh was seized from a vehicle at Moranhat by the Charaideo Police. Around 1,000 cartons of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) was seized from a truck bearing registration number AS02-AC1593 on late night of Thursday by the Charaideo Police and arrested the driver of the vehicle identified as Mohammad Manzoor.

Charaideo Superintendent of Police Anand Mishra said that on the basis of specific intelligence input regarding smuggling of 1,000 cartons of IMFL, an operation was launched. “The police team, led by Sonari SDPO Tridip Kumbang, intercepted the truck (AS02-AC1593) between Moranhat and Sepon and was brought to Moranhat Police Station for investigation and verification,” he said. “It was found that the truck was carrying 1,000 cartons of IMFL from Arunachal Pradesh to Amguri in Sivasagar district for further black marketing in Nagaland,” said Mishra. “‘Only for sale in Arunachal Pradesh’ was superscribed on the bottles. The superintendent of excise has issued a certificate stating that the entire consignment was illegal and being smuggled,” he added.

Superintendent of Excise, Sivasagar Sanjib Saikia, who is also the Deputy Superintendent of Excise of Charaideo said, “On checking the goods, it is estimated that the value of seized liquor was around Rs 25,60,000”. A case has been registered and investigation to unearth all those involved in the illegal activity has started. According to a source, the police led by SP Mishra, has started operations against all types of syndicates that are active in the district. “Roles of some members claiming to be office bearers of some social organizations is being thoroughly investigated,” the source added.
