LAKHIMPUR: Almost all organizations of Lakhimpur as well as the common people of the district have extended massive support to the 21-day long lockdown declared across the nation in order to prevent the spread of highly contagious pandemic COVID-19 in the State.

In this regard, the journalists of North Lakhimpur Press Club conducted massive awareness campaign on Tuesday, urging the people of the district to sincerely adhere to the instructions and guidelines served by the governments at the Centre and in the State in order to fight against the fatal disease.

A non-governmental organization of the district, Padumoni Jagaran Sewa Samiti, by distributing leaflets, also initiated similar steps covering a larger part of Lakhimpur Development Block, appealing people to carry out a comprehensive lockdown by staying at home until they faced any emergency issue. Simultaneously, the organization also conducted awareness programme by distributing leaflets among the people on COVID-19 along with the precautionary and preventive measures to be taken to contain the epidemic.

On the other hand, a cultural group of Bilmukh and the local bodies of the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) also expected the success of the lockdown while warmly welcoming the decision to declare lockdown to protect people from COVID-19. In this regard, the activists of the noted cultural group of Bilmukh under Dhakuakhana subdivision, Obonori Nebir Babir Dirbi O:pe conducted poster campaign covering almost all villages under the area. Further, the activists of the Kalabari local body of TMPK under the subdivision also initiated similar poster campaign with slogans like ‘Make lockdown successful’, ‘Stay at home, be safe from Coronavirus’, ‘Maintain social distancing’, ‘Don’t spread COVID-19 infection’, and ‘Stay safe, stay healthy’ to make the lockdown successful.

Despite such appeals for the comprehensive success for the lockdown, some unruly people were seen roaming here and there unnecessarily in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday. The insincerity of such people has evoked reaction among the conscious citizens of the district. They have demanded the district administration to enforce strict rules against those who violate the lockdown guidelines without any reasonable ground.
