SILCHAR: In a prompt response to the proposal placed by the Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha to the NF Railway General Manager Chetan Srivastava, two special trains between Silchar and New Haflong are to be run for the next two days to ease the passenger burden. On Thursday, the special train was to depart from Silchar at 6 PM and reach New Haflong at 10.30 PM. Similarly, the train was to start from New Haflong at 11.30 PM on Thursday and reach Silchar at 4 AM on Friday. Again, the special train would depart from Silchar at 6 AM on Friday and the return train from New Haflong would start from 9.30 AM.

MP Purkayastha said that as the hill section had been badly affected by landslides near Mupa, the train service between Silchar and Guwahati was impacted. Hundreds of passengers were stranded for the last few days. However the road connectivity from Haflong towards Lumding was quite good. So for passengers in urgent need to move between Silchar and Guwahati, the special trains between Silchar and New Haflong would be of great benefit.
