Tezpur: With collective enthusiasm and a spirit of wellness, Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradev University has conducted a week-long series of yoga workshops across various parts of Assam. The initiative aimed to promote physical and mental well-being as a foundation for building a healthier and more harmonious society.

In Tezpur, the workshops were led by three dedicated master’s degree students of the university, Triton Dev Nath, Reshma Debbarma and Smita Devi, who organized a comprehensive week-long yoga programme. The sessions covered a wide array of yoga practices, including fundamental postures (asana), breathing techniques (pranayama), sun salutations (Surya Namaskar), and guided meditation. Participants were introduced to multiple yoga styles, including Hatha Yoga, alignment-based exercises, and restorative yoga. Designed to be both interactive and engaging, the workshops progressed from simple stretches and mindful movements to advanced flow sequences. Demonstrations of Surya Namaskar were included to help attendees grasp the physical rhythm and meditative aspects of the practice. Each session concluded with a guided meditation, leaving participants refreshed, relaxed, and revitalized.

The workshops were conducted at several prominent locations in Tezpur, including Tezpur College, Tezpur District Sports Association, Cricket Association Tezpur, local children’s homes, and multiple schools such as Sankardev Shishu Bidya Niketan, Rashtrabhasha Vidyalaya, Gandhi Memorial ME School and Playground LP School. At the school venues, special yoga competitions were also organized to cultivate interest among students and inspire them to embrace yoga from a young age.

The Additional Superintendent of Police Sonitpur praised the students’ efforts and acknowledged the value of such outreach programmes in promoting public health.  Tezpur College collaborated with the university to host a two-day intensive yoga camp. Participants expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, noting the physical and emotional benefits they gained. The principal of Tezpur College, in his remarks, highlighted the relevance of yoga for students and acknowledged that the workshop had successfully inspired many to begin their journey into yogic practice.
