SIVASAGAR: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is steadily advancing its well control operations at RDS 147A, with teams working tirelessly around the clock despite adverse weather conditions.

A significant development occurred this evening with the arrival of an extra-long boom crane from Guwahati. This vital equipment was crucial for safely removing tubings stacked in the rig derrick and represented a key step toward clearing the well site in preparation for the final capping operation.

Heavy and continuous rainfall throughout the day created challenging, slushy working conditions. Nonetheless, ONGC’s Regional Crisis Management Team (RCMT), in collaboration with international well control experts from Cudd Pressure Control, USA, remained fully engaged on-site. Their efforts ensured that the removal of the remaining rig equipment continued without interruption.

As surrounding floodwaters rose, ONGC teams actively maintained the operational status of the critical RCMT pump to ensure uninterrupted safety measures. Encouragingly, a further reduction in gas pressure was recorded at the site, a promising indicator of stabilization ahead of the capping phase.

In parallel, the mobilization of specialized equipment, including the Athey Wagon and bulldozers, was progressing steadily, enhancing readiness for the final containment operations.

Each milestone marked a step closer to securing the well, with strong support from international experts, Sivasagar District Administration, and the community.

This update was shared in a press statement issued by Corporate Communications, ONGC, New Delhi.
