Stress laid on strengthening foundation of Axam Xahitya Xabha

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur District Xahitya Xabha (LDXX) has appealed to all AXX (Axam Xahitya Xabha) branches to strengthen the foundation of the parent organization (AXX) and check anything which is ‘discriminatory and lethal enough to pose a threat to the unity and integrity of the Assamese’.

The biennial session of Pahumara Sakha Xahitya Xabha, a unit of the Lakhimpur District Xahitya Xabha (LDXX), was held with a daylong programme on Saturday.

The open session commenced with newly-elected branch Xahitya Xabha president Maheswar Nath. It was inaugurated by LDXX secretary Biren Chandra Bordoloi.

Bordoloi appealed to all to strengthen the AXX foundation and its branch units. Newly elected LDXX president Bipul Sarmah Baruah took part in the programme as an appointed speaker. At the outset, a one-minute silence was observed to pay tribute to Ratna Oja, Dr. Pradip Hazarika, Hari Prashad Subba, Bhavakanta Nath and the five anti-CAA agitation martyrs of the State. While retired principal Deva Prashad Kakati graced the occasion as the chief guest, LDXX spokesman Prasanta Kumar Modak and several other prominent personalities were present as guests of honour.

In the programme, former LDXX president Krishna Kanta Borah and five eminent personalities of the greater Phoolbari area were felicitated for their contribution to the area.

The programme began with the unfurling of the AXX flag by branch unit Xahitya Xabha president Tirtheswar Hazarika. While former president Renuprabha Morang led the tribute paying, another former president Kamal Kumar Borah inaugurated a plantation drive. It was followed by a poets’ meet which commenced with story-teller and novelist Dhanada Devi in the chair.

Retired Principal of Nowboicha HS School Deva Prasad Kakati inaugurated the open session which was chaired by Deepak Bordoloi, the newly-elected president of the Sakha Xahitya Xabha. While Dr. Umesh Chandra Sarmah Shastri graced the occasion as the chief guest, Jogendra Nath Dutta was the appointed speaker. Several LDXX dignitaries and a galaxy of prominent personalities were present at the programme as guests of honour.

Meanwhile, the Phoolbari Sakha Xahitya Xabha held its biennial session on January 23 and January 24.

In the delegates’ meet of the event held on the first day, the executive body of the branch unit Xahitya Xabha for the 2020-22 session was formed with Maheswar Nath as president, Girindra Prasad Upadhyay and Ruma Hazarika as vice-presidents, Bodhen Saikia as the secretary and Muruli Koch as magazine editor.
