BISWANATH CHARIALI: An awareness meeting on the Plant Protection Code (PPC) issued by the Tea Board of India was held at Nij Baghmari, Biswanath Chariali, under the initiative of Samiran Tea Industry on Saturday.
In accordance with the Tea Board’s new guidelines, the meeting focused on the list of approved plant protection chemicals for tea plantations, compliance requirements and worker safety.
Speakers at the meeting highlighted the adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices to reduce chemical residues in tea. Tea growers were urged to strictly use chemicals approved for tea crops by the Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIB&RC).
The growers were also informed about four newly added bio-pesticides approved for tea production. In addition, the Tea Board’s new booklet on the guidelines, translated into Assamese, was distributed among small tea growers.
Officials of Samiran Tea Industry, including Chief Manager Aditya Bordoloi, Assistant Manager Dilip Thakurya and Lilen Das, briefed the growers on the changing landscape of the two-century-old tea industry, the shift towards chemical-free tea production, and their duties and responsibilities.
Local small tea growers and factory employees attended the meeting.
