Goalpara: A team of 16 officers from India and abroad from the National Defence College (NDC) under Ministry of Defence visited Goalpara district as part of the socio-political study tour 2020 on Monday.

The team was headed by Air Marshall D. Choudhury, a commandment of NDC, along with Brigadier Vipul Shinghai, secretary of the NDC. Foreign officers from four countries - America, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan -were part of the tour.

“We have come to see the socio-political development taking place in the State, how challenges are being faced and how the schemes are being implemented. This gives us an on-ground exposure,” said D. Choudhury.

Citing reasons behind selecting Goalpara district, Air Marshall said, “This is one of the districts which is developing well so we have selected it.”

During their visit, the defense officers arrived at the 24 no. Budhipara Anganwadi state model centre near Agia College and interacted with the children of the centre. The scenic beauty of the artistically painted center, conservation and recycling of rainwater, modern baby toilets and an overall building used as learning materials impressed the visiting team so much that they gifted a token of memory to the Anganwadi worker in presence of center in-charge Nileswar Ray, CDPO.

The team also shared a light breakfast with the children and gifted chocolates to them. Deben Bhuyan, social welfare officer, apprised the visitors about the operating mechanism of the Anganwadi centers in the State.

The Baladmari High School was the second destination for the visitors where they interacted with students as well as the teachers and exchanged views on education. Prior to leaving the district, the defense officers interacted with the district officers of various departments in a meeting hosted by Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka in the conference hall of the office.

Talking to this correspondent about Assam, Col. Paul Meaghre, USA Marine Corps said, “We are very pleased to see the efficiency at the State and district level, how they met the challenges and address the problems elegantly and professionally. The district (Goalpara) is also beautiful.”
