Tezpur University hosts TOLIC meet to promote official language implementation

TEZPUR: Tezpur University successfully hosted the Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) meeting on July 18. The event brought together key officials from various central government institutions across Assam and parts of Arunachal Pradesh, emphasizing the implementation of the Official Language Policy.

The meeting was graced by Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof. Singh highlighted the importance of promoting Hindi while also preserving and encouraging the development of regional languages such as Assamese. Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, he stressed that foundational thinking is best developed in one’s mother tongue and noted that economically advanced nations often prioritize education in native languages. Ram Akbal Yadav, Research Officer from the Regional Implementation Office, Department of Official Language, participated as an Invited Guest. He emphasized the need to carry out official work in Hindi, underlining its role in enhancing administrative efficiency and fostering national unity.

Prof. Nidhi Bhattacharya, Chairperson of TOLIC, encouraged all committee members to actively use and promote the official language in both professional and personal spheres. The meeting included a thorough review of the quarterly performance reports submitted by the participating offices, with special focus on Hindi language training and typing proficiency. Dr. Kul Prasad Upadhyay, member secretary of TOLIC and Hindi Officer of Tezpur University, coordinated the event. TOLIC is a statutory body under the Government of India’s Official Language Policy and plays a key role in ensuring its effective implementation at the local level.
