The protest was led by groups such as the Adivasi Jani Sakti Sangati and the All Adivasi Students Association of Assam’s Karbi Anglong branch, united in calling for the swiftest punishment for the accused, Babu, alias Ranjit Basumatary.
This heartbreaking event has drawn the community’s focus on getting real justice and making sure something like this doesn’t happen again. Ayushi, from Amrajan which falls under Bokajan Police’s jurisdiction, went missing on June 22, 2025. Her body was found the very next day, confirming everyone’s worst fears and sparking a lot of pain and anger across the community.
The protest shows how strongly people feel—standing together with Ayushi’s family and demanding action. It’s obvious they’re not willing to stay silent, pushing for justice and changes to protect kids in the future. They marched from the AASAA-KADC office all the way to Ayushi’s home in Amrajan, with people from all walks of life holding banners and posters, showing their support.
In response to the outrage, authorities in Bokajan arrested Ranjit Basumatary on June 24 and filed a case against him at the local police station. But even with his arrest, community leaders and groups keep pushing for a quick, transparent legal process to make sure justice is done without delay. The community remains alert, demanding justice for Ayushi and pleading for stronger safeguards to keep their children safe.
