TINSUKIA: The 1st Tinsukia district-level committee meeting for Assam Urban Water Bodies (Preservation & Conservation) Act 2024 which was held recently at the conference hall of District Commissioner Tinsukia released its minutes on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Swapneel Paul, District Commissioner of Tinsukia.
After threadbare discussion on the issues pertaining to the Tinsukia district on the key features, the chairman outlined the action plan. In the 1st phase, historical water bodies of the Matak kingdom and the public pond with area over one bigha shall be considered for survey work for which 3 zones, namely Municipal area, Guijan block, and Itakhuli block will be created in Tinsukia master plan area in consultation with TMB, TDA by the Deputy Director T&CP–cum-Member Secretary DLC.
The DC asked the Member Secretary DLC to properly monitor the survey works so that historical and traditional ponds of Matack kingdom, all water carrying natural channels and public water bodies of the railway colony near Raja Ali road, Jyotinagar near VIP road, etc. come under the purview of AUWB 2024.
He further requested the Chairman of TMB and TDA to inspect the encroachment along the TRA drain and other water channels. He also asked the EO, TMB to discuss with the transport department for temporary shifting of the ASTC bus stand to Laipuli truck stand to ease traffic congestion in the heart of Tinsukia town.
