Tinsukia Zilla Parishad receives 'National Panchayat Raj Award'

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia Zilla Parishad (TZP) has reason to rejoice amidst the coronavirus pandemic after it received the National Panchayat Raj Award 2021 along with two panchayats on the occasion of National Panchayat Raj Divas held on Saturday.

The awards were conferred by Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually. The Tinsukia Zilla Parishad is the only recipient in the State of Assam while two gram panchayats- Talap Gaon Panchayat under Saikhowa Development Block and Kumarpatty Gaon Panchayat under Margherita Development Block, received the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Panchayat Award among 76,000 panchayats across India.

In this connection, a meeting was held on Saturday in the conference hall of Tinsukia Zilla Parishad with Lalit Moran, president of TZP, in the chair. Sarangapani Sarma, CEO of TZP, informed that the TZP received the national award for outstanding performance under Own Source Revenue (OSR) collection and 100 per cent Data Documentation and Dissemination. He also informed that the TZP earlier in January, 2021 was the second best Zilla Parishad in the State. While Tinsukia Zilla Parishad received Rs 50 lakh, the Kumarpatty and Talap Gaon Panchayats received Rs 15 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively along with the awards, Sarma stated.
