TINSUKIA: The Takam Mising Porin Kabang (TMPK), which has been spearheading the rehabilitation issue for Laika-Dodhia forest villagers, is heading for confrontation with the Tinsukia district administration after it alleged that the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia would refuse any memorandum or whatsoever in future written on the letterhead of TMPK, even as the Deputy Commissioner accepted three separate petitions and forwarded them to the DFO (Wildlife) on Thursday.
In a press meet convened jointly by Tinsukia District Committee of TMPK and Dodhia Rehabilitation Demand Committee and addressed by Ajoy Doley, assistant secretary TMPK, Dondinath Meshang, Nijam Darg, Birap Narak of Dodhia at Lezaiholla temporary camp on Friday, Ajoy Doley alleged that the Tinsukia DC, though had accepted memorandum on Wednesday, stated that TMPK was not authorized to settle the rehabilitation issue and he would accept representations from gaonburahs of Laika and Dodhia only. The TMPK leaders also accused the DFO (WL) of not accepting any document from TMPK. In the wake of this decision of the Tinsukia DC to 'sideline' TMPK, it may lead to an unpleasant situation, said Doley. They also lambasted Mitun Pame, secretary of Dodhia Rehabilitation Demand Committee, for joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently and using the platform for political mileage.
On the other hand, Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner Diganta Saikia, when contacted, told this correspondent that he accepted all the petitions personally and forwarded them to the officials concerned. One such letter in procession of this correspondent revealed that the DC forwarded (Vide No TPL-17/Forest Matters/2020/120 of 11.02.2021) three separate petitions submitted by TMPK and Laika Punor Sansthapan Dabi Samiti (LPSDS) to the DFO(WL) and copy of which was sent to TMPK Tinsukia district committee and LPSDS. Thus, there may exist some ambiguity in the statement of TMPK.
