Training on vermicomposting conducted at Napam campus

Tezpur: KVK, Sonitpur organized a six-day long Skill Training for Rural Youth (STRY) on vermicomposting, sponsored by National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), here at the Napam campus recently.

At the outset, the programme was inaugurated by District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Sonitpur, Prakash Chandra Borah. Head, KVK, Sonitpur, Dr. PC Deka welcomed the dignitaries and the participants on the occasion while Dr. Nmaita Dutta, SMS (Soil Science) briefed about the objective of the programme. Bharat Rajbangshi, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Sonitpur, Kiran Bora, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Sonitpur, and Pranjal Sharma, Sr. ADO, Soniotpur were also present on the occasion.

Zakir Hussain, ADO, Sonitpur a delivered a lecture on probable health hazards of pesticide use, indiscriminate use of fertilizers and ways to prevent them. Emphasizing the use of organic input, Hussain elaborated different kinds of organic fertilizers that can be produced with minimal resources in the farm itself.

The participants were taken for a field trip to Nomol Sharma’s vermicompost production unit situated at Bihaguri, Sonitpur. Sharma is a pioneer vermicompost producer of Sonitpur district who started his venture way back in 2014 after obtaining a training imparted by KVK, Sonitpur. Sharma interacted with the participants and discussed about practical know-hows of vermicompost production. On the very last day, the programme concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony.
