DHUBRI: A successful trial run on the newly-laid railway track was conducted from Alomganj railway station to Bilasipara of Dhubri district by Rangia Railway Division on Wednesday.
Earlier in December, 2017, a similar trial run of train was conducted by the department from Gauripur to Alomganj on the 11.700 km newly-laid railway track while this time, it covered 26.500 km from Alomganj to Bilasipara. Thus, a total of 38.200 km of new railway track has been completed so far from Gauripur to Bilasipara, a senior railway officer said.
Bilasipara, the headquarter of the Bilasipara subdivision of Dhubri district, has put its name in the railway map of the country. “It is matter of great satisfaction that at last Bilasipara, an important and historical place in lower Assam, has entered the railway map. With this new development in communication, an era of development will be ushered and people of this area will be immensely benefitted,” said Debabrata Das, a social worker and resident of Bilasipara town said.
Talking to The Sentinel, Safety Commissioner of Rangia Railway Division, RK Sharma informed that this speed trial run of train conducted on Wednesday was successful. “First goods trains will run on the track and then gradually passenger train will be introduced,” Sharma further informed. A railway source also informed that work for rest of the railway track, including tunnels and bridges, was going on from Bilasipara to Abhayapuri and deadline was set as end of 2020 for its completion. The New Moinaguri-Jogighopa New Railway Line Demand Committee fought for over two decades for this new railway route, of which nearly 70 per cent has already been completed.
