I always believe one does not move on from the loss of a loved one, you move along with it. On the eve of her Chalisa (40th day of her earthly departure), I would like to pen down my thoughts about her contribution to our lives. She was a friend, confidante, and guiding light who not only prepared her children for the life ahead but also instilled the right values. Amma always knew how to move along with changing times. Her constant curiosity and intelligence in managing day-to-day affairs were commendable. She enjoyed exploring new places through family trips and relishing different cuisines. Gardening and interior design were means through which she expressed her creativity. Her culinary skills were exemplary and she never shied away from trying new dishes.
As a child, I remember her deeply being involved with our daily activities. She was a true companion to my father and they both weaved a beautiful life together. He empowered her to develop herself by having her discharge key responsibilities. Her attitude of giving and caring made her likeable amongst her immediate family members, friends, and acquaintances. She carried a lovable, bubbly, and sweet personality.
I wish people remember her aura and demeanour even if she is not physically around us anymore. As it is said, life is a rollercoaster ride. One has to accept both the highs and lows with a grin. The loss of a loved one is irretrievable but with time the wound heals. I hope the moral compass which Amma has imbibed in us will be passed on to the future and we, as a family can navigate these trying times. Today on her Chalisa, we pray Allah to grant her Jannat-e-Firdaus.
