Tribute to NazmiAra Begum

Sentinel Digital Desk

My beloved mother, NazmiAra Begum, left us for her heavenly abode, leaving us forlorn and shattered on the fateful night of February 20 at her SS Road, Lakhtokia Guwahati residence after a brief illness. She was 76. My mother was an epitome of coolness, calmness and patience - these traits were her ornaments. Helen, as she was fondly called, never ever raised her voice. So pleasing was her demeanour that everyone who came in touch with her was moved to the core.

An embodiment of simplicity, affability, generosity and humility, she always greeted everyone with an ever smiling face. Whenever I encountered any problem, she provided the much-needed healing touch that virtually lifted my spirits and kept me going despite odds.

Mother never said 'No' to anyone and would reach out to them in whatever way she could. That endeared her to everyone. Whatever she did was out of purity of love, purpose and service and that kindled many a heart! She was a complete woman who made goodness attractive. As a good wife, she provided constant support to her husband, who predeceased her, throughout his life.

It is so hard to believe that mother is no longer in our midst. I shared a very, very special bond with her since childhood and the fond memories of her, all keep flashing before my mind's eye continuously, relentlessly, painfully. I miss her hugely and the void created would be hard to fill, even though people say time is the greatest healing factor. One thing is, however, certain and that is her fond memories will remain etched on my mind forever. On the day of herChalisa, I pray to the Almighty to grant her soul eternal peace and the strength and fortitude to bear this enormous loss.
