Munu Borma. My emotions run deep and wild the moment I utter these words. She meant the world to me. She was no less than a mother to me and I loved her no less either. I am yet to come across someone so warm, loving, caring and giving. Ever smiling and positive. Simple to the core, yet strong with a lot of grit and determination. Born and brought up in Sivasagar, her schooling was from Phooleswari School, Sivasagar.

She completed her graduation from JB College, Jorhat where she was adjudged the best singer of her college. Our bonding grew stronger after the premature passing away of bor deuta, Late Jitendra Nath Phukan in the year 1989.

I would visit her often and even stay at her place for as long as a month. Those were trying times for her, both mentally and financially and that was the time I got to see a new side to her personality, strong and capable. With a lot of grit and determination, she ensured that both her sons who are well placed in life today, faced no inconvenience in completing their education. Her elder son Dr Satyakam Phukan ( Bubu) was then pursuing his Medical degree and Er Muktikam Phukan (Tabu), her younger son his Engineering degree. Borma started working early in life. Her first job was that of a lady Instructor at the Gram Sevika Training Centre, Jorhat & post marriage Borma took up a teaching job at Uzan Bazar Night School & Montessori School, Dighalipukhuri.

Later, after the demise of Jiten bor deuta, she worked as a Community Organizer under the Guwahati Municipal Administration Department where she spent years working passionately for the welfare & uplift of the slum dwellers. And she would go about doing all this with so much love & compassion. As I write her obituary, my constant companion is her beautiful & infectious smile & her voice, humming some old melodious number & our never ending chit chats. My dearest Munu borma, as I pay my homage to you today on the day of your Adya Shraddha, my eyes swell up with tears. I pray you find peace and be happy wherever you are.
