Raghunath Choudhury, a resident of Santipur hillside, Indira Gandhi Path, Guwahati, passed away on February 12 at his residence after a brief illness. Born in a respectable family of Pokowa village, Choudhury para, near Nalbari Town, his father Late Govindaram Choudhury was a well known person and Late mother Parbati Choudhury hailed from Saderi village of Bajali area.
He had his early education at the village school. He passed matriculation from Nalbari Gurdon School and college education from Cotton College. Thereafter he was selected for Ranger's training at FRI, Dehradun. After joining the forest service, he served in various capacities in the department and was deputed as Divisional officer in the newly created Soil Conservation department, Assam and retired as the Joint Director of the department. Wherever he went he could imprint his presence. During his service period, he also served as the General Secretary of the Forest Officers Association, serving the interest of the members.
Simple, kind-hearted, and very active till the very end, he was associated with many socio-religious educational activities for the uplift of people around him. He was actively working for the spread of the message of Universal Brotherhood in the society and shouldered various responsibilities of Theosophical Society of Assam as General Secretary, President and established many branches in Assam & Northeast. In addition he was an active member of Santipur Namghar and some educational institutions with various responsibilities. He also had a connection with his native home and always tried for the uplift of village people, especially the young generation.
He has put undeniable marks in the minds of the people around him and his absence will create a deep void that will be difficult to fill up. He was 91 at the time of his demise. He is survived by his wife Archana, two sons, Dipanka and Diganta, two daughters Sikha and Moushumi, son-in-law and daughters-in-law, grand sons and daughters, and a host of relatives. Today on the day of his Adya Shradha we pay homage and pray to the Almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
