AGARTALA: The continuous and heavy rainfall over the last few days has caused problems for the people of Tripura, especially the South Tripura District. The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) informed that a portion of National Highway number 8 collapsed because of the heavy rain.
The State Emergency Operations Centre mentioned a 25-meter stretch of the highway near the Birchandramanu locality, which falls under the Santirbazar Subdivision of the state. The officials also mentioned that an enquiry has already been initiated to determine the reason for the cave-in of the important road. He also mentioned that they have already requested the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to repair the damage immediately. And that the work on the renovation is continuing on a war footing so that people can continue with the daily commute on the NH8.
The flood situation in Assam has also worsened and another person lost his life in Bokakhat Revenue Circle in the Golaghat district. With this, the death toll from floods this season has increased to ten. The Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat in the Jorhat district yesterday and today too. The Dikhou River in Sivasagar is also flowing above the danger level today.
According to the CWC (Central Water Commission) report, the water level of the Brahmaputra is maintaining its rising trend in Tezpur, Guwahati, Goalpara, and Dhubri. Thirty-one villages in five districts—Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, and Sivasagar—are under the grip of floods in the state. According to the ASDMA’s (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) flood report, the deluge affected 6,863 people in the five districts today.
Meanwhile, the RMC (Regional Meteorological Centre), Guwahati, predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning over Assam in the next four to five days. The RMC has issued a special rainfall warning for Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaogaon, and Cachar districts.
