Two convicted in Darrang district

The Sessions Judge of Darrang A Bhattacharyya in two separate judgments on Tuesday has awarded rigorous imprisonment

MANGALDAI: The Sessions Judge of Darrang A Bhattacharyya in two separate judgments on Tuesday has awarded rigorous imprisonment for a period of ten years six months with a fine of Rs. 5000.00 to an accused person for outraging the modesty of a village girl and rigorous imprisonment for a period of seven years to an accused person for beating up a man to death.

In the first judgment (Sessions Case No.119 (DM) of 2022), one Bolo Ram Deka son of Sat Ram Deka of village Bor Satra under Mangaldai Police Station has been awarded rigorous imprisonment for seven years six months with a fine of Rs 5000.00 for outraging the modesty of a village girl on March 2 last. Significantly the Investigating Officer Woman Sub Inspector Pranita Taid immediately arrested the accused person in connection with Mangaldai Police Station Case Number 93/2022 under section 376/448/506 of IPC and within a very short period of 27 days, she filed the chargesheet before the court.

In the other case (Sessions Case No. 77 (DM) of 2018, the arrested accused Om Prakash Harijan son of Mani Lal Harijan of village Niz Dalgaon under Dalgaon Police Station has been awarded rigorous imprisonment for a period of seven years with a fine of Rs 5000.00 on the charge of killing one Chandra Harijan on May 29 of 2017. In both the cases, Public Prosecutor Premeswar Sarma appeared for the state.
