TANGLA: Better late than never. This adage seems apt in regard to the letter by senior journalist Rewati Raman Sapkota to the Prime Minister’s office over the inordinate delay in completion of the construction work of the Udalguri-Rowta road (NH-715-A) under the Public Works Department, Rangia NH Division. The work had started but was left incomplete.

Echoing the grievances of the people, Sapkota wrote a letter describing the ordeal of the public and inefficiency of the construction company and PWD to the PMO office vide PMOP/E/2016/0327860 on September 4, 2016. According to reports, the improvement works of the road project under SARDP-NE-PROJECT under Job No. SARDP/NE-6 road package/AS/PWD2010-11-168 was left incomplete in the year 2011 for reasons best known to the company concerned and the department. The office of the Executive Engineer, PWD Rangia, NH Division vide a communication EE/RAN/2018/T/537/242 to the petitioner scribe on May 6, informed that the physical progress of the road project was 66.25 per cent till date.

“The contractor has been asked to speed up the work and it is expected that the remaining work will be completed soon,” stated the letter signed by the Public Grievance Officer of the office. The people of the locality have heaved a sigh of relief following the news. However, conscious circles are yet in doubt if the work will be completed and citizens on condition of anonymity have informed that if the works are not resumed and completed soon, they will knock the door of the court as a last resort.

Talking to The Sentinel, senior journalist Rewati Raman Sapkota said, “It will be a great relief if the work resumes and the project gets completed within a fixed time frame. Though late, I am elated that the PMO has taken up the matter seriously in the greater interest of the public.”
