Veteran artiste and educationist Dimbeswar Lahon passes away in Jorhat

GAURISAGAR: Dimbeswar Lahon, pioneer of modern Khanamukh, veteran artist, educationist, recipient of Bakul Bon award and a resident of Khanamukh Lahon gaon in Jorhat district, passed away on Tuesday at his own residence due to old-age ailment. He was 86.

Born in 1936, Lahon joined No 50 Khatuwal LP School in 1951 and started his career as a teacher. He got superannuation in 1994. He was awarded the Jorhat district best teacher award in 1992. Besides, he was a prominent artist and performed Diha Nam across the State. He had dedicated his life to popularizing Diha Nam.

He was the first recognized artist of Diha Nam of AIR Dibrugarh and his melodious voice was recorded in 1975. He was a popular playwright and wrote 25 dramas and performed them. For his contribution towards promoting Assamese culture, he was conferred the Bakul Bin Award in 2015 by Bakul Bon Nyas, Asom, Jorhat. He was also awarded the Artist pension in 1992. His demise has been widely mourned in the entire Khanamukh Chinamonigarh area. He is survived by his wife, a son, two daughters and a host of relatives...........
