Veteran Assamese film actor Guna Mahanta passes away

NAGAON: Veteran Assamese film actor Guna Mahanta is no more. He passed away on Monday morning around 7.30 am at a private nursing home. He was 70. According to family members, early in the morning on Monday he suffered from some nerve related disease and the family members immediately admitted him in a private nursing home at Haiborgaon. But the doctor on duty after preliminary investigation declared him brought dead.

Guna Mahanta was born in 1946 at Kolakota Xatra at Sensuwa village in Nagaon and had settled in Nagaon Fouzdaripatty. He played various roles in around 50 popular Assamese feature films and TV serials. His played prominent roles in films like Kadambari, Ujanir Dujanir Gabharu, Maghat Mamonir Biya, Xoru Buwari, Dinabandhu, Mitha Mitha Logon, Chacrabehu, Adhinayak and Srimanta Sankardeva.

Various organizations of the district as well as the State like All Assam Students’ Union, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, Krishak Sramik Unnayan Parishad, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti and district committee of All Assam Journalists’ Union, Working Journalists’ Union, Nagaon Press Club, various cultural organizations of the district, various dignitaries and Nagaon district units of AGP, BJP and Congress condoled his demise and paid floral tribute.

Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, ADC Gourisankar Das, former Chief Minister PK Mahanta, and local MLA and president of Nagaon Chambers of Commerce, Rupak Sarma also condoled his demise and paid floral tribute to him.
