LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district body of Voters’ Party International (VPI) initiated agitation programme in Lakhimpur district demanding the construction of Bogiandi-Bhimpora connecting bridge over the Subansiri River and the closure of Tariyani quarry.

Almost 500 activists of the party took out a protest rally from the Gojai-Monai Kshetra of Boginadi and staged dharna at Kadam Revenue Circle office on Monday. By staging the same protest, led by Lakhimpur VPI unit president Fazlur Rahman and secretary Rabindra Chunkrang, the party further demanded permanent resolution of the devastating erosion caused by the Subansiri River. The party also demanded to launch free of cost government ferry service across the river until and unless the Boginadi-Bhimpora connecting bridge was constructed.

The party submitted separate memoranda to the Chief Minister, Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner and Divisional Forest Officer of the district and Circle Officer of Kadam Revenue Circle regarding their demands.
