Tezpur: In an encouraging effort, the Tezpur Central University has, reportedly, developed face shields for medical staff, who have been relentlessly fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic since its outbreak in the country. The university administration informed media that medical professional could use the shield during the time of attending novel coronavirus positive patients. The University’s Electronics and Communication Department’s associate professor Dr. Nayan M Katoky and assistant professor Durlav Sonowal, along with its Physics Department professor Pabitra Nath and the Computer Science and Engineering Department assistant professor Rosy Sarma have developed the shield in the university’s Embedded Systems and Robotics Lab and Applied Photonics and Nanophotonics Lab. Some premier institutes in the country including IIT Bombay, Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi apart from Department of Bio-technology and Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India have been assisting in the project. Besides, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology department of the university helped manufacturing sanitizers for disinfection of the shields. Already, the concerned authority has sent the first batch of the shields to the Tezpur Medical College, Guwahati Medical College and Dr. B Barooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati.
