Wild elephants wreak havoc in Jamugurihat, destroy home and crops

JAMUGURIHAT: Herds of wild elephants that come out of the sixth edition of the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve create havoc and tension among the residents of the adjoining villages that share the boundary with the sixth edition of the national park. The regular entry of the giant animals have caused a great deal of loss to the paddy fields of the poor peasants and to the private property and belongings as well.

According to information, a herd of wild elephants entered the Sitalmari village to the south-eastern part of Jamugurihat on Monday night and trampled down the dwelling of one Madhab Chetry and the kitchen as well. The family members somehow managed to escape from the attack of the wild elephants.

Many people have lost their lives so far due to attacks by wild elephants. The local residents have complained about the issue to the concerned forest department but no steps have been taken by the department concerned, alleged the local residents.
