GUWAHATI: The significant event of World Environment Day 2020 took off with a vibrant start in Digboi Refinery, albeit with transformed mode of execution, leveraged through the powerful potential of online channels of communication and action. Sandeep S John, Executive Director & Unit Head, Digboi Refinery inaugurated the programme in presence of NK Barua CGM (TS &HSE), K.K Sarma, CGM (T) and other CGM & GMs/DGMs general managers. The inaugural session also witnessed participation of Bhaskar Pegu, Deputy Commissioner, Tinsukia, as the chief guest and Dr. Zawthanglien Changsan, Regional Director, CPCB Shillong as the guest of honour through video conferencing.
In an attempt to grasp the attention of the stakeholders and the people of the region towards the critical need to safeguard, preserve and protect the environment, the Health, Safety & Environment department led by N K Barua CGM (TS&HSE) along with Abhijit Mojumdar DGM (HSE) produced and released serious message through the audio-visual drama presentation and music video. The online launch of WED 2020 in Digboi Refinery was followed by onsite fingerlings in the water bodies and tree plantation by the senior dignitaries.
A number of programmes to involve the younger generation are being held to create maximum awareness and participation on the theme of Biodiversity through a dedicated website https://www.digboirefinerywed2020.in . Programmes and competitions like All Assam Open Quiz, Essay Writing contest, Craft with waste material competition, All Assam recitation competition and All Assam Competition on Biodiversity initiatives are being held through this important virtual platform from June 5 to 20.
