World Red Cross Day observed in Lakhimpur district unit of Indian Red Cross Society

LAKHIMPUR: World Red Cross Day was observed in Lakhimpur district by the Lakhimpur district unit of Indian Red Cross Society on Wednesday.

The event was organized at Lakhimpur Post Graduate Training College premises in connection with the birth anniversary of Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross and first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. The programme began with the unfurling of Red Cross flag by Lakhimpur unit chairman Dr. Mukunda Rajbonshi. Then deep reverence was paid to the humanitarian figure by paying floral tribute and lighting earthen lamp in front of his portrait.

Participating as chief speaker in the event, Dr. Chandan Chutia delivered a speech on ‘Why we love the Red Cross’. In his speech, the speaker highlighted the history of the origin of Red Cross Society, its rule in serving the needy people and its working policies. Prior to it, general secretary Rajib Sarmah explained the objectives of the programme. A blood donation camp was organized on this occasion. In addition, the certificates of the lifelong members of the Indian Red Cross Society from Lakhimpur were also distributed in the same programme.
