NAGAON: To mark the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY), Yogesvara Sansthan organized a series of programmes under its signature event ‘Harit Yoga’ in Guwahati on June 18. The initiative was conducted in association with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and the National Ayush Mission, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
The event was initiated with a common yoga protocol session at Shraddhanjali Kanan, a lush green park in the city. The serene environment served as an ideal setting for participants to engage in holistic yogic practices under the guidance of expert instructors.
The event saw participation from over 230 individuals, including prominent dignitaries such as Engineer Ram Swaroop Agarwala, Wing Commander Govind Barua, and Dibya Jyoti Deka, Chairman of Yogesvara Sansthan.
A yoga demonstration competition followed the session, featuring seven teams of 5–9 members each from various institutions and yoga groups. The team from Astha Fitness Academy, Guwahati, emerged as the winner and was awarded a cash prize in recognition of their performance and discipline. In a symbolic gesture blending yoga with ecological consciousness, the participants later took part in a tree plantation drive titled ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,’ held at Tarun Nagar. The initiative underscored the event’s core message of health, harmony, and environmental sustainability.
An environmental education campaign was also held at B Baruah College on Thursday. The event featured an extempore speech competition focused on the themes of Yoga and Nature, drawing participation from over 110 students, a commendable turnout, given that many were in the midst of examinations.
Distinguished guests in attendance included Dr Satyendra Nath Barman (Principal B Baruah College), Dr Diganta Choudhury, (Dept of Chemistry and Co-ordinator of BBA Dept), Dr Satyabrata Baruah (Dept of Education), Dr Joyjeet Hazarika (Dept of Political Science), Dr Soumik Benarjee (Dept of Physics), Dibya Jyoti Deka, Chairman, Yogesvara Sansthan.
