NAGAON: On the occasion of International Day of Yoga, Yogotsav 2025, organized by the Department of Yogic Science and Naturopathy of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, successfully concluded on Wednesday here.
The programme, which commenced on Tuesday with a yoga session at the Nagaon Police Reserve auditorium, was attended by the newly-appointed District Commissioner of Nagaon, Devashish Sarma, Registrar Dr Sarat Hazarika, General Secretary of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha and Coordinator of the university Kushal Thakuria, the department's founding head, Professor Boli Narayan Phukan, Deputy Registrar (Academic) Dr Bichitra Bikash, along with other officials, staff, professors, and students of the university. This yoga session, conducted by Barasha Maske, Assistant Professor of the department, was attended by over 200 students from Nagaon town.
While addressing the occasion, District Commissioner Sarma praised the university's initiative, saying that a healthy mind built a healthy body. Discussions and practical applications for keeping oneself healthy are being given importance internationally nowadays, he added.
Significantly, in the afternoon, a national-level seminar was held at the university's auditorium. During the event, the book titled ‘Relevance of Yoga Education in the Present Scenario’ was launched, and the Yoga Ratna award for the year 2025 was presented to the eminent educationist and Gitacharya, Purandar Baruah, by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ashok Kumar Bora, and other distinguished guests present, stated a press note here.
