MANGALDAI: In 2011 a group of educated young and dedicated rural youths of Bagharbari village in Bhurar Garh Gaon Panchayat in Darrang district setting aside their political ideologies, got united under one single umbrella which they named 'Renaissance Club.' Their humble intention was to create awareness in all sectors like superstitious belief, creating a congenial atmosphere for the academic environment, to inspire and encourage the villagers to revive the work culture taking the motto of the dignity of labour, undertaking multi-cropping agriculture farming instead of the single cropping and reviving of Assamese rural tradition among the villagers. Since the day of their foundation, this group of dedicated youth-led by its secretary Mridul Kalita got involved with social activities to upgrade the social and moral values and ethics and to extend a helping hand to the needy and downtrodden section of the society. In 2017, they repaired a 3.5 km long stretch of village road by raising an amount of Rs. 1.5 lakhs as a donation from the public and extended financial assistance to 7 patients belonging to the weaker section. The dynamic and enthusiastic members of 'Renaissance Club, also made arrangements for required treatment to 9 cancer patients of the locality.
Besides continuing their regular social activities, in 2019 they adopted a unique and novel resolution to plant a total number of one lakh saplings in the academic and religious institutions, government offices, and other suitable places of the district. Within this period they have successfully planted fifty thousand saplings till date with regular care and maintenance of each and every planted sapling.
On January 5, Zubeen Garg planted the 50001st sapling at Harihar Bipra Khsetra at Bagharbari in presence of a large audience. He also inaugurated the newly constructed office building of 'Renaissance Club' in the function. The organizers synchronizing with the function offered hearty felicitation to a number of prominent personalities in different fields in recognition of their sincere service to society. They are Superintendent of Police Er Sushanta Biswa Sarma, former legislator Guru Jyoti Das, Officer in Charge of Sipajhar Police station Inspector Niranjan Barua, teacher of repute Mati Ram Saikia and Biswajit Barua, popular comedy group 'Bhanga TV', voluntary organization 'Unity We the Blood Donor'progressive farmer Nawab Ali, young social activist Niranjan Saikia and Gauri Shankar Kalita, media person Bhargab Kumar Das, Dulal Deka, Ratneswar Saharia, Naba Kumar Mahanta, writer Bindu Kalita Rajbongshi and Sub Inspector Krishna Kanta Laskar.
