Zubeen Garg’s legacy powers new Census 2027 theme song unveiled in Guwahati

The Directorate of Census Operations (DCO), Assam, on Thursday launched the official Census 2027 Theme Song at its Conference Hall in Guwahati as part of its public awareness campaign to encourage greater citizen participation in the national census.

GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Census Operations (DCO), Assam, on Thursday launched the official Census 2027 Theme Song at its Conference Hall in Guwahati as part of its public awareness campaign to encourage greater citizen participation in the national census.

The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in tribute to singer Zubeen Garg, whose rendition of the theme song was described as an enduring inspiration. The song, written by Pankaj Chakravarty, ACS, District Commissioner of Kokrajhar, highlights the importance of public participation in the Census for national planning and development.

The event was attended by Census Nodal Officer and Additional Secretary Partha Pegu, District Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty and Garima Saikia Garg, wife of Zubeen Garg.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries paid tribute to Zubeen Garg’s contribution to Assam’s cultural and social landscape and expressed confidence that his association with the campaign would inspire citizens to participate in Census 2027.

Director of Census Operations, Assam, Biswajit Pegu said the theme song would serve as an effective communication tool to create awareness and motivate people across the state to take part in the Census. The programme concluded with the official screening of the theme song in the presence of officers and officials of the Directorate.
