6 Candidates from Manipur Cracks UPSC Civil Services Examination 2020

IMPHAL: Six candidates from Manipur have cracked the UPSC civil services examination 2020, results of which were declared on September 24.

The six candidates selected from Manipur are Parikshit Thoudam (AIR 60), Waikhom Nydia Devi (AIR 180), Heikrujam Prasanjeet (AIR 578), Kshetrimayum Deepi Chanu (AIR 621), Hatchinghoi Haokip (AIR 673) and Lourembam Nelson Mangangcha (AIR 757) .

The number of vacancies to be filled in through the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2020 is IAS-180, IFS-36, IPS-200, General Services Group A-302 and Group B Services 118.

Parikshit Thoudam (AIR 60) had previously cracked the examination in 2019 and secured the 373rd rank.

Waikhom Nydia Devi (AIR 180) studied in Padma Ratna English School Kakching till Class X and was the overall state topper in HSLCE 2009. Nydia's father Ibotombi is a retired driver of the state Medical Department, while her mother Radhamani is a nurse in the same Department.

Kshetrimayum Deepi Chanu's father Deben is a retired Group Captain of the Indian Air Force and is currently working as a captain in Indigo Flight. Meanwhile, Library and Information Kakching has extended the heartiest congratulations to Waikhom Nydia Devi and Kshetrimayum Deepi Chanu on clearing the Civil Services Examination.

Mention may be made here the main examination was held in January this year and the personality test conducted in August-September. The UPSC on Friday declared the final result of the Civil Services Examination, 2020 and said that a total of 761 candidates - 545 men and 216 women - have been recommended for appointment. The candidature of 151 candidates is provisional.

Shubham Kumar has topped the prestigious exam while Jagrati Awasthi and Ankita Jain have got second and third ranks, respectively. Kumar, a Bachelor of Technology (civil engineering) graduate from IIT Bombay, has qualified the examination with anthropology as his optional subject. Awasthi qualified for the examination with sociology as her optional subject. She completed B Tech (electrical engineering) from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal.

Among the top 25 candidates, 13 are men and 12 women. The recommended candidates also include 25 persons with benchmark disabilities (seven orthopedically handicapped, four visually challenged, 10 hearing impaired and four multiple disabilities). Of the successful candidates, 263 are of general category, 86 from economically weaker section (EWS), 220 of Other Backward Classes (OBC), 122 Scheduled Castes (SC) and 61 belong to Scheduled Tribes category.

As many as 10,40,060 candidates applied for the examination, out of whom 4,82,770 appeared in it, the statement said. A total of 10,564 candidates qualified for appearance in the written (main) examination which was held in January 2021. Of them, 2,053 candidates qualified for the personality test (interview), it said.

The civil services examination is conducted annually by the UPSC in three stages - preliminary, main and interview.
