Amit Shah Directs Security Forces To Ensure Free Movement Of People On Manipur's Roads From March 8

NEW DELHI: In a decisive move to restore normalcy in Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday issued a directive mandating that the free movement of people be ensured on all roads in Manipur starting March 8. He also instructed authorities to take strict action against anyone attempting to create obstructive movement on the roads.

Chairing a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi on Saturday, the Home Minister said that the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remains fully committed to restoring lasting peace in Manipur and is providing all necessary assistance in this regard.

Amit Shah also instructed that the fencing work on both sides of the designated entry points along Manipur's international border should be completed at the earliest. In a firm stance against drug trafficking, he stressed the need to dismantle the entire drug trade network, making Manipur a drug-free state.

The meeting was attended by the Governor of Manipur, Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Army Commander of the Eastern Command, Directors General of Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Assam Rifles, Security Advisor, Manipur, and senior officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Army, and Manipur administration.
