Huge cache of arms & ammunition recovered by security forces in Manipur

Guwahati: Security forces recovered arms and ammunition near Nambol Naorem in Manipur's Bishnupur district.

Based on intelligence input, troops of Indian Army under the aegis of Assam Rifles and Bishnupur district police conducted a search operation and recovered arms and ammunition in Manipur.

It was said in a press release on Monday evening.

Based on specific input regarding presence of two armed cadres of a banned outfit involved in extortion activities, the joint team launched a search operation in the area, the release of the Assam Rifles said.

The team recovered three well concealed packages containing the arms, ammunition and other war like stores, it said.

Security forces have also recovered one carbine, one country made AK Rifle, one Point 32mm US made pistol, one country made single barrel gun, two hand grenades, one improvised explosive device, two hand held radio sets and assorted live ammunition, it stated..

The seized arms and ammunition were handed over to Nambol Police Station for further investigations.

An operation is currently still underway.
