Manipur: 2nd North East India Film Festival Concludes With Awards And Cultural Celebrations

During the awards ceremony, the Manipuri feature film "Oitharei" was honored as the Best Feature Film, while the Assamese film "Where Is My Home" received the award for Best Non-Feature Film.

IMPHAL: The 2nd North East India Film Festival (NEIFF) 2025 concluded on Sunday at the Library & Information Centre, Kakching, after seven days of screening films and cultural events.

Organized by THOUNA, Manipur, in association with the Film Forum Manipur and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations, the festival started on February 12 at the City Convention Centre. It received sponsorship from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).

During the awards ceremony, the Manipuri feature film "Oitharei" was honored as the Best Feature Film, while the Assamese film "Where Is My Home" received the award for Best Non-Feature Film. Both films were recognized with citations and cash prizes. "Oitharei", produced by Gibanlata Thokchom and directed by Dinesh Naorem, and "Where Is My Home", produced by Samiran Deka and directed by Bhaskar Jyoti Das, were celebrated for their artistic contributions.

Thongju MLA Th. Biswajit, the chief guest, highlighted the importance of cinema as a medium for storytelling and cultural representation, and called for quality filmmaking. Other guests, such as IPR and Art & Culture Commissioner M. Joy Singh and Kakching MLA M. Rameshwar Singh, also spoke of the necessity of excellence and good stories in the industry.

The five-day festival saw 28 films, six of which were Assamese, being screened at three venues. Ten films were awarded in different categories, such as Best Direction, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography, to highlight the rich cinematic talent of Northeast India.
