IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday said that 4.8 hectares of illicit poppy cultivation in Senapati district were destroyed.

In a post on X, Singh said, "In a significant breakthrough in our war on drugs, Senapati Police, the Forest Department, and district administration have destroyed 4.8 hectares of illicit poppy cultivation at Kangjang Hills, Senapati." CM Singh also appreciated the teams for the drive, which was conducted on Tuesday.

"I appreciate the teams for their dedication and efforts. The fight against drugs is not just a law enforcement effort but a collective responsibility. I urge all citizens to stand with us in building a drug-free, healthier, and more prosperous Manipur," he said.

In another similar incident, a joint operation involving the Churachandpur District Police, the District Forest Officer (DFO) Churachandpur, and central forces led to the destruction of illicit poppy cultivation in the Siden Changpikot area of Dampi Reserve Forest in Manipur on January 23.

The operation, conducted under the jurisdiction of Sangaikot Police Station, aimed at curbing the illegal drug trade in the region. Around 12 acres of poppy fields were destroyed during the drive. The authorities quickly took action to remove the illegal crops, which have become a major problem in the area.
